Chase is an Eagle Scout with a ton of backpacking experience and I am brand new to the world of hiking and backpacking. Along for the trail is our trusty 4 year-old Australian Shepherd, aptly named Sheila. Follow for gear reviews, insights into preparing for a long-distance hike, and information on hiking with a dog.

About

Chase and Kelley thru-hike the AT.

My name is Kelley and I am a beginner. I have next-to-nothing when it comes to hiking experience, but who could pass up a chance to hike 2,184 miles across 14 states? That being said, I’ve got a lot of preparation ahead of me, as we plan to start at Springer Mountain in February 2014 and finish before the Fall 2014 semester begins. This blog will serve as a record of what we have set out to accomplish, with a little less than a year of planning ahead.

The motivation behind this hike is a little complicated, but it boils down to wanting to do something extraordinary and difficult together before beginning the next chapter of our lives at our respective grad schools.

We come here to learn about ourselves.
